Descriptive Answer Type (Marks 5)
1. Give the substance of the
poem ‘The sick Rose ‘
Ans: ‘The Sick Rose’ is written
by William Blake. Blake is a lyrical poet. He is the one of the best poets of
England. He took symbolism to present all that he saw and believed to be real.
The rose which stands for love, beauty and purity is destroyed by the worm
which stands for evil and destructive. The speaker of the poem informs the rose
that it is sick because an invisible worm has entered into its bed in the
howling storm under the cover of night. It has made rose’s bed its home. The
dark secret love of this worm is destroying the rose’s life. The innocent rose
is unaware of the presence of worm because it is invisible. The invisible worm
performs its work and makes the rose sick. Thus innocence is destroyed by
experience.
